Saitama Prefecture is next door to Tokyo and also is where Kanno Miho was born. The actress attended Shukutoku Daigaku and studied Communications, but did not graduate. When at junior High school in 1992 she auditioned for an idol group on TV, which was her foray to becoming famous. She began acting in 1993 and became a supporting actress by 1995. The year after gave her first main actress role. Kanno won praise for her portrayal of a deaf and mute person in Kimi No Te Ga Sasayaite Iru and solidified her reputation. More popularity came her way when, again in 1997, she posed for a naked pictorial book of herself. Soon she was also trying her hand at singing and had a hit with the song Zoo.
