Argo works 100 percent as a straight-up hard-boiled thriller, but its deeper thematic current is about trust.

This is better than any horror movie.

Entertaining and suspenseful in old-fashioned ways.

With the guidance of Affleck's steady hand and a clear vision, Argo builds a compelling story of both courage and deceit.

With Affleck's continued growth as a director, it makes you want to see what he will deliver next.

Let's just say that the movie's final section is so nail-bitingly tense, thanks to a skillful combination of acting, writing and crosscutting, that it puts Affleck in the big leagues as a director.

For 100 minutes, 'Argo' is close to flawless.

A solid take on an improbable event in American history.

As solid and engrossing as Argo is, however, don't believe all the hype -- it falls short of exceptional.

The cast helps to keep things moving -- particularly the hilarious interplay between Arkin and Goodman. And is it me, or should Bryan Cranston be in every film released?

A riveting and exceedingly assured feature, Argo is a first-rate thriller that whilst lacking in any sense of historical relevance remains a perfectly fashioned piece of evening escapism.
