Bad Boys (1983)
After killing an eight-year-old boy who happens to be Paco's brother, 16-year-old Irish-American hoodlum Mick O'Brien is sent to the Rainford Juvenile Correctional Facility rather than a state prison for adults. Vowing revenge, Paco rapes Mick's girlfriend, gets caught and sent to the same prison where he re-works his revenge plan, and Mick has no choice but to defend himself.

Mediocre movie with excellent performance by Penn.

Sean Penn pretty much explodes in this great (and often overlooked) visit to an ugly juvenile prison.

"Bad Boys" misses its chance at greatness, but it's saying something that this movie had a chance. I have a notion it will stand as one of those bench-mark movies that we'll look back at for the talent it introduced.

An oxygenated, thoughtful alternative to the usual run of gangs-in-the-slammer movies.

An underrated but excellent near masterpiece...

It eventually becomes nothing but ugly and sustains that quality to the bitter end.

Gritty prison flick with a fine lead by Penn

Director Rick Rosenthal does a topnotch job of bringing to life the seedy, hopeless environment of a jail for juvenile offenders and has gotten some terribly convincing performances from his young cast, notably topliner Sean Penn.

strong performances led by Sean Penn in a role that solidified his status as the best young actor of the 1980s
