Serenity
The story tells of a man called Baker Dell, a man who works as a fishing boat captain who leads tours to a quiet tropical pocket called Plymouth Island. Perhaps one of the trips is strange as his ex-wife Karen is being tracked for despair by Dell for help. One day Karen begs Del to save her and her young son from her new violent husband (Jason Clark) on a fishing trip that looks the most wonderful and dangerous where things may turn out completely.

At best, Serenity could turn into a cult film because of how spectacularly inept it is. [Full Review in Spanish]

Serenity is a weirdly intimate film that builds a world so peculiar and enigmatic, it keeps you constantly guessing. Knight's experiment is a great success with one of the most chilling twists, ever.

The movie becomes even more ridiculous after its big reveal, which is obvious from early on and suggested in the opening shot.

Aiming for brain-bending, Serenity is certainly a head-scratcher; you'll wonder why the cast were drawn to such a questionable concept.

At the critics' screening I attended, the audience was reduced to hysterics.

"Serenity" is, instead, full of ludicrous trivializations that bypass the story's troubling implications.

A production more apt to deliver frustration than gratification.

The film's maritime setting has a certain aptness because Serenity has all the hallmarks of a fish tale. Unfortunately, Knight lets this one get away.

You leave with a certain respect for the chutzpah of it all.
February 27, 2019
Neither tense, genuinely philosophical or surprising, Serenity ends up leaving the audience groaning, laughing hysterically at its awful execution, or willing the pain to end as its dated ideas play out.

If you like seeing authentically unusual movies, then ignore the haters: In its fusion of disparate genres, its sentimentality, and its weirdness, Serenity is actually worth watching.

The final nail in the McConaissance coffin.
