A very minor addition to an ugly horror subgenre.

[For] low-budget horror, The Basement certainly isn't the worst, but it's far from the best. It's a good time-killer with great gore and decent performances, a nice background while you play that game on your phone. Don't expect anything more.

Not an effective scare zone, best enjoyed as a chance to watch a few actors hustle to showcase their stuff, handed ample screen time to work through a range of bizarre encounters.

The Basement has the feel of a stilted Off-Off-Broadway audition piece.
