The 'Burbs
Settling in for some time off in his suburban home, Ray Peterson's vacation becomes a horror when the Klopeks, a suspiciously odd family, move in down the block. After sending his family away on a trip, Ray and two of his neighbors try to prove their paranoid theory that the new family on the block are part of a murderous cult.

This black comedy is often hilarious, but is betrayed by an ending forced on Dante by the film's producers.February 09, 2006
Characteristically, Dante's nonchalant attitude towards plot structure makes for erratic pacing (the last half hour does flag), but that's part and parcel of his breathless, anarchic style.February 22, 2017
This movie was directed by Joe Dante, whose style has become increasingly broad and abrasive since he made the clever Gremlins back in 1984.August 30, 2004
The Burbs is a big unfurnished movie about some very small characters living in a suburbia that is consciously designed to look like sit-com land.March 26, 2009
Director Joe Dante funnels his decidedly cracked view of suburban life through dark humour in The 'Burbs.February 22, 2017

One of Dante's most enjoyable films.February 22, 2017
The 'Burbs doesnit quite go the distance, but for most of its length it is a superbly inventive, insightful and funny black comedy.February 22, 2017
[Director Joe Dante] excels at this sort of thing and delivers an intriguing picture, even though it threatens to stray into David Lynch territory but ultimately cops out. Bruce Dern and Carrie Fisher offer fine support to the affable Hanks.
