Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole went looking for 'magic' deep in the uncharted Amazon basin and never returned. Emmet's wife rounds up a team to head into the jungle in search of him, agreeing to let his show's former producer film the expedition in order to fund it.

Fans of "American Horror Story's" kitchen-sink method might wish for more fake blood, but I prefer more subtlety, and "The River's" second hour, particularly, struck me as plenty creepy.
