Given how many subplots and threads Black Lightning's already introduced, "The Book of Green Light" is a welcome change of pace, but at the same time, it still manages to introduce an important new depth to Black Lightning's mythos.

You can tell a lot about a show from a mediocre episode. "And Then the Devil Brought the Plague" was a mediocre episode of Black Lightning. Still, if this is going to be what a medicore episode looks like, then this show is something special.

Black Lightning digs into the past and brings to light several backstories of several different characters. While these storylines are interesting in isolation, it just starts to feel like too much all at once.
