Selena plus Chef - Season 1 Episode 11: Friendsgiving
Since social distancing at home, Selena has been spending more time in the kitchen than she ever imagined. But despite her many talents, it remains to be seen if cooking is one of them. In each episode of this unapologetically authentic cook-along, Selena will be joined remotely by a different master chef. Together, they'll tackle cuisines of every variety, share invaluable tips and tricks, and deal with everything from smoking ovens to missing ingredients. Each episode will highlight a food-related charity, and this casual, funny, and informative series will embrace both the struggle and the joy of learning to cook - while inviting audiences to follow along at home.

A show about what we're living through. Not merely is Gomez forcing herself through a challenging mission, learning to cook, she's also doing so while learning to show us aspects of herself she'd resisted giving up thus far.

This new streamer, which airs from Thursday, August 13 on HBO Max, proves the latter point but raises some questions about the former. As it turns out, Selena can't cook very well - but she doesn't seem to enjoy it much either.

Gomez's series isn't necessarily a cooking tutorial (although you can pick up a few tips!) as much as it's a cathartic and lighthearted comedy gently inviting the audience to relate to the daunting task of learning something new.

Mark my words, Gomez's knives will probably have their own Instagram account before quarantine ends.

This is just two people in separate kitchens making recipes. You see that she's learning...and it's fun going through the process with her...she's so relatable...
