Shawn Spencer happens to possess some uncanny powers of observation thanks to his father, Henry, a former police officer. He then is hired by the police after conning them into thinking he has psychic powers; and with the assistance of his reluctant best friend, the duo take on a series of complicated cases.

As with Monk, the crime is largely an afterthought. Psych similarly serves up murder as a fluffy souffle, but what a tasty way to end the week.

The hammy younger actor [James Roday] isn't quite as cute as he thinks he is, and he belongs on a louder comedy series , a laugh-track sitcom in which his clowning might fit in more naturally.
